Hypocrisy and Cannabis Laws in the U.S.

Most sane people would say that the laws that govern Cannabis in the U.S. are not realistic and are unfair making no sense what so ever in the face of things like cigarettes and alcohol being legal. But the hypocrisy goes far deeper than that. The CSA or Controlled Substance Act put into law in 1970 diems that Cannabis should be listed as a Schedule 1 controlled substance. No big news I am sure we all know this, and we know one of the things that it means is that the government of the United States claims it has no medical use. So here is the catch that many people don’t know... I Quote”Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and HIV dementia...” Abstract from U.S. Patent # 6630507 who owns this patent, the United States of America. We own it along with some banks, a car company and some other recent acquisitions to our collective portfolio. Now I have to ask how do they think they can get away with this kind of crap. People go to jail, lives are ruined, sick people are being stopped from being able to get cheap meds that will help their symptoms, criminal is not even the word for it. I don’t really care if it is some huge conspiracy of big Pharma, or if it is a hold over policy from our not so distant silly past dragging its feet into or current more silly present. The debate about Cannabis is very big, and it is a screaming example of how the government over reaches their power and misuses public trust. I think every one should email members of congress and ask them what is up with our collective investment in Patent # 6630507 and in the end who will be the benefactor of this patent.
