If you or someone you know has been put thru hell by antidepressants, then you are aware of how these drugs can cause negative effects. You may not be aware of how dangerous these drugs can be, or of how corrupt the FDA and the entire drug industry have become. You may not be aware of the astonishing profits these companies are hauling in, or of how the industry controls the media by buying more advertising then any other industry. (The media tends to resist biting the hand that feeds.)
The FDA receives and is now dependent on major funding (User Fees) from drug manufacturers. More then half of FDA members have deep pocket connections to the pharmaceutical companies. Those members who are honest are forced to be whistle blowers in order to get information out about dangerous drugs! It is only after information becomes public that the FDA acts to protect the public.

A recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that in one year, over two million patients suffered serious drug reactions, resulting in 106,000 deaths. Another article in JAMA estimated that only 1 in 20 reactions are reported. These numbers vastly eclipse the number of people killed or seriously injured in car accidents each year.
In 1999 a study conducted by Adrian Preda, M.D.; Rebecca W. MacLean, M.D.; Carolyn M. Mazure, Ph.D.; and Malcolm B. Bowers, Jr., M.D. found that 8.1% of Psychiatric Admissions to hospitals were due to Antidepressant-Associated Mania and Psychosis (J Clin Psychiatry 2001;62:30-33). The number is higher now because the numbers of people taking antidepressants has risen significantly.
The Royal College of General Practitioners reports that the pharmaceutical industry encourages the unnecessary prescribing of costly drugs and overemphasizes the dangers of mild conditions such as: anxiety, mild depression, slightly-elevated blood pressure, high cholesterol and osteoporosis. Doctors are now receiving almost all drug information from the drug makers. Most doctors have no idea how corrupt the industry has become.
Drug makers are allowed to hide many drug studies from the FDA, the doctors and the public, showing only the studies they choose to show. Drug companies have repeatedly been caught hiding data, using false advertising and many other underhanded methods to sell drugs. And yet when they are caught they receive a slap on the wrist, (relative to profits.) Thu, June 1, 2006 - 8:52 PMI have a BA in psychology, although I decided not to go any further. I have benifited from antidepressents, but I will definetly say that the drug companies are abusive in not just in psychotropic drugs, but in everything that they do. A big part of the problem are not just the drug companies, but the insurance companies as well, as they do not like to pay for psychotherepy, as it is cheaper to proscribe the drugs.

Mon, July 31, 2006 - 4:10 PMSame here over the pond. People come for help, and they get a load of drugs so that the shrinks can get rid of people fast and effective. My brother is adicted to medicines, think he has a combo of 10 different ones. In the end the medicines started to react with each other and new strange things happened. In turn new doctors perscripted new medicines to solve the bi- effects. We had to put him into de toxication in the end because of stuff the doctors had caused. He is now on a new 10 pill combo. I feel they are highly incompetent and dosent really know what they are doing. Wrong people on wrong places. The drug dosent solve the problems, it just brushes them under the carpet or make things worse. I had a depression some years back, went to a shrink.. He spent half the time babbling about different drugs. I said im not taking anything of this. We tried to talk but i found him highly incompetent and in the end it was all about him! He had more problem then i had!
When i interfeared with him, he said.. im the shrink here! So i said.. im the patient, thank you for noticing. I finally said i will solve the problems myself since i can do it better than him. Without drugs. So i did.

Wed, October 14, 2009 - 4:44 AMTo stop corruption you need to find the seeds and control them at the lowest levels. Human nature is to lie, cheat, steal, and kill when convenient. Our intellectual side fights these behaviors and provides us with a feeling of fairness. The only real measure of fairness however is broad ethical outcomes.
So we can actively control corruption, but we need an active system to do so.

To stop corruption a highly skilled and funded team of specialists needs to continually monitor for and stifle the seeds of corruption; which eventually requires only occasional maintenance. But initially, the weed patch needs considerable tending.
